Channel Computing are specialising increasingly in the provision of Content Managed web sites - where the sites owners can easily update the pages of their own site, without recourse to expensive developers every time a page needs to be changed.

The benefits of a CMS (Content management system) over a traditional web site are too numerous to list here, but you can view some of what is possible in our projects archive. A good CMS is also scalable, and can be developed to a fully functional e-commerce or community portal without having to stop and start again.

We have two main approaches open to us, either to develop specific CMS functionality for an individual client, or to use one of the high quality open source systems which are now readily available. Each approach has its benefits, and our job is to help you navigate through the options, and achieve a site that really enhances your business.

Static Web Site

The conventional web site is designed and written in HTML to your requirement. A great deal can be achieved with a static site, but if you want to change it, you must either learn basic HTML, or ask your developer to update it for you.

Simple CMS site:

Advanced CMS Portal:

Where a high volume, advanced content managed system is required, Channel Computing are experts in the provision and development of Joomla! sites. Joomla is the most popular system on the web for advanced Portals, and features a dazzling array of functionality to help you promote your business or association on line. The fantastic advantage of open-souce products are that functionality that once would have been written by hand for each site is now readily available, so a site that may once have cot £30,000 may now be more like £2,000 - a major saving for you. Other advantages are that being used and tested by so many people, an opensource product is often more stable and well tested than an application written by one business alone. The final big advantage is that if your developers disappear suddenly (unlikely we believe, but none we regularly hear from clients to whom this has previously happened), an open source product has thousands of experts ready to help you maintain your site. With a proprietary system once the developer is lost, you may lose your whole site, have to start again with a new one.

Custom written CMS:

Where the functionality your business requires is not already available from the Opensource community, Channel Computing can design and write any functionality you require using wither PHP/MySQL, or Visual Studio and SQL Server. It is quite rare that a high quality open source product does not exist, so please ask us to look at each individual requirement and assess its merits and cost. This type of custom-written functionality is often required for a dedicated Business to Business (B2B) application.
