Autumn Training Programme - Joomla Course

Which brings me on to our autumn training programme......

Joomla! Training Day

The first date to be held on November 3rd in Cornwall  is a new departure for us - we will be providing a training day to the owners of Joomla web sites, again with the support of DPN (Digital Peninsula Network) who will be making sponsored places available to some qualifying Cornish businesses.

We do this a lot for individual clients and web site owners, so it only makes sense to extend this to the broader community as well. There are already hundreds of Joomla web sites owned and run by Cornish businesses and organisations, including to my knowledge University College Falmouth, the Falmouth, the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce, and many others.

We do quite a few sites in Joomla, finding that if offers a very good blend of functionality and price.  If we were to custom build the same web sites then we would have to build so much more from scratch, meaning that it would take longer and cost more.  Joomla provides an enterprise standard CMS (Content managed web site) system using OpenSource code which is freely shared by its development community, meaning that you can benefit from it without having to write from scratch.

A full schedule fo the day is available on this page.  There is a lot to get through, so we also want to hear from attendees in advance with their questions, so we can make sure that we tailor parts of the day to make it as relevant as we can to each attendees needs.

One interesting aspect of Opensource software like Joomla is the radical difference between what you can achieve with it.  I mean there are some really desperately bad Joomla sites out there - there is no denying in, and of course you would expect that with a product that absolutely anyone can download for free, and do what they want with.  Then again there are those that do know what do do with it, and produce some of the biggest and best web sites in the world.

Here are a couple of my favourites to tickle your taste buds - you can create these yourself with patience and skill:

And here are a couple of ours:

Don't forget to have a look at Joomla.org as well for the real low down on the product and the worldwide community that develops it.
