Two new sites launched

The Quince Tree screenshot We've been very happy in quick succession this week to launch two brand new web sites, working in partnership with Trunk Design.

The Quince tree is a pub, restaurant, cafe and bar in Stonor near Henley, the venue is absolutely brand new and has been refurbished from the ground up to be one of the best fine dining locations in the Home Counties. James DeVille from Trunk has provided the graphic design and inspiration, but the team here have provided a little inspiration of their own in the background. Andy's work on the extremely funky image galleries (see the jumpy lopsided images on most pages of the web site) has been superb, and we have also been very happy with a number of aspects of the site, the little image galleries combined with menus, and the slick restaurant menus in lightboxes come to mind.

Social media and PR presentation this morning

I enjoyed giving a presentation this morning to all our friends and colleagues at the Falmouth Business Club breakfast, in which I partnered with Helen Mulhern of Eventy Marketing to give a short presentation on PR and Social Media.

  • Helen initially talked about the art of the press release, including how to select your audience, how to write it, distribution, how to improve the changes of getting it published.
  • I then followed up with some things you can do using Social media to generate better "traction" for your press release, including distribution via social channels, PR sites, and other sites specific to your target audience.

Channel Welcomes Helen

Helen TrudgeonWeare delighted to announce the further expansion of our team with the arrival of Helen Trudgeon, who will be focussing on enhancing our digital content and marketing services.

“Channel has always delivered an integrated approach to web development and marketing, and with Helen joining us to work with clients on their search engine optimisation (SEO) and Social media marketing campaigns, we are now able to expand our offering in this area” said Director, Anna Barrington. “Helen is a high calibre individual, and brings us a wealth of experience in on and off line marketing, copywriting and management, so we’re very excited to welcome her to the team.”

Helen previously led the Partner to Succeed business collaboration project in Cornwall and has a strong background in creating web content and marketing, “making her the ideal person to develop this service for us”, added Peter Graves, co-owner of Channel Computing.  “We are delighted to have Helen on board, and are excited at the new opportunities this will provide for our existing and future clients.  Her business management experience will also be invaluable to Channel as we continue to grow and expand into new markets and develop new clients.”

Channel is moving to new offices

Tremough entrance We are very excited here at Channel that we are moving in to brand new offices at the soon-to-be-complete Tremough Innovation Centre, up at the Tremough Campus of the Combined Universities of Cornwall, in Penryn.

We will be moving on January 30th and will be issuing our new contact details to all our friends and clients then, as well as entertaining the Falmouth Business Club and Chamber members at the new building.

At present the Innovation Centre is still having the finishing touches put to it, but we have been able to have a look round and attach a couple of photos here.

The Innovation centre is part of Cornwall's ongoing development plans, having being funded by the EU through the Convergence programme.  Among its many features it includes:

  • Low Carbon building
  • Cafes and shared meeting areas
  • Superfast broadband connectivity
  • IP telephony
  • State of the art design

A guide to the main blogging platforms

This is about the differences, pros and cons of the main three blogging platforms:

Wordpress is the clear leader in the blog field for good reason; it is a truly excellent product.
Confusingly for a beginner Wordpress has two offerings - wordpress.org and wordpress.com, which are quite different.
Google's offering is blogger or Blogspot.

There are meny other good blogging platforms but these three are the market leaders, here are the main differences:
