Charities in Cornwall - and Further afield

It would be easy for us to build web sites all week long for nothing, and believe me we get asked a bit, by some fantastically deserving causes too.  Unfortunately if we helped anyone out that asked we'd be out of business.

However we do have a little bit of a conscience, and so here we list a few charities or organisations that we'd like to either draw some attention to, that we really like and support, or perhaps where we gave a tiny bit of help with their web site.

We can't really do any more - really sorry - but please do go and have a look at these sites, and if you like them or believe in them, then give a little something....

Thank-you!

RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution

Now this one is close to home, and a great presentation this morning by Dave Nicholl of the Falmouth RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) of course, brought it home to me again about the great work that this charity has been doing for well over 150 years.

As a sailor this may well effect me, but it is important to all of us - we all like to go to the beach - and for several years now the RNLI has been responsible for saving the lives of hundreds of holiday makers each year since they took over the responsibility for running the surf lifesaving and beach lifeguards all round the country.

Apparently they patrol 87 beaches here in Cornwall alone, and only last week they brought in some 30 swimmers in 15 minutes, as the rip tide at Perranporth started sweeping large numbers of bathers and surfers out to sea.  Its still amazing to think that the charity is staffed by volunteers, and those guys put their lives at risk without pay to save other people's being on call 24/7 all year round.

Please visit the RNLI lifeboat charity web site here.

Tukae - charity in Tanzania and Cornwall

Tukae.org is another great charity, run from Cornwall on a shoestring, and helping thousands of people in a quiet corner of rural Tanzania with health, jobs, and providing some of the necessities of life in one of the world's poorest countries.

We've been lucky enough to become friendly with some of its organisers Clive Barton and Althea Stevens, have seen a few presentations and given a tiny bit of help.  Also lucky enough to have been to Tanzania in the past, so I know how friendly and warm the Swahili speaking people of East Africa are.

Please have a look at the Tukae.org web site, I think you'll be impressed by them.

Pants Matters

pants matters - gynaecological health logoPants Matters is a charity run by a lovely lady called Jeanette Preston, which raises awareness and helps people with Gynaecological issues, cancers and other nasty things.

We didn't build this web site but would like to draw your attention to it.  I feel this is a subject close to all our hearts (or even lower - sorry), and will affect either us or people close to us.

Pants are very proactive and run a variety of fund raising events, including music events.  This on is upcoming and looks fantastic, we might see you there!

Friends of Bwindi Hospital

children at bwindi - ugandaBwindi Hospital is a remarkable community hospital in Uganda (yes Africa), where British Medic Paul Williams and his team work for nothing, with very little, to save and improve thousands and thousands of lives.

Their support includes lots of malaria treatment, helping Aids victims, birthing thousands of children, as well as all of the usual operations carried out by the only hospital covering thousands of square miles of Africa.

I love going to Africa and one day I'd like to see what's going on at Bwindi, so we gave a bit of help with a rather brief web site, in the hope the it would help them to drum up some support.

Please have a look and let me know what you think, perhaps a little visit to their Just giving page as well?

I know its not in Cornwall, but I hope you'll agree it worth some support.
